At Burnside State School, we focus on building a safe, supportive, learning environment in all aspects of school life. A safe and supportive learning environment is further enhanced by an acceptable dress code that promotes:
• An effective teaching and learning environment by eliminating the distraction of competition in dress and fashion at school;
• A safe environment for learning by enabling ready identification of students of Burnside Sate School and those students that are not;
• Community values, expectations and perceptions of the school; and
• Mutual respect among students through minimising visible evidence of economic, class or social differences.
Students are required to wear their full uniform including fully enclosed black shoes, plain visible ankle socks and a full brim school hat each school day and for all formal occasions such as excursions, awards ceremonies, school photos, and other school related public functions.
The Burnside State School Student Dress Code is endorsed by the Parents and Citizens' Association and is fully explained to parents / carers as part of the enrolment agreement at Burnside State School. The Student Dress Code reflects community standards and is consistent with occupational health and safety, and anti-discrimination legislation.
